My life on page was a thought out journey of blue ink words neatly pressed on paper. There it was, all my dreams waiting to be checked off one by one. The expectation and timing of what I envisioned had to fit right into my life. I would start to work on a dream I had, and find myself tweaking and fine tuning it to death before I could release it. I didn’t want to make mistakes, so my dreams sat in the incubator of perfection waiting to be born. I would stare at my list of dreams wondering why they hadn't started coming true. I manifested my list, I started working on it, what's going on? Why were my dreams wait listed while others around me were making their dreams come to life?
I discovered while some of life is luck, I found those around me were capturing the "fireflies of luck" by being open to opportunity and imperfection.
The fireflies of luck are blinking moments of opportunity that dazzle the eye making the darkness glitter with possibilities. They are pure strokes of magic that flash bright for a second, tap you on the shoulder to say “hi" and then it's up to you to catch them. All of us have fireflies of luck around us, but sometimes we don't see them. We often focus on making our gifts, talents, uniqueness perfect for others to receive that we miss the possibility of opportunity. Our dreams begin to flicker further away.
The gift of accepting imperfection asks us to be inside this beautiful world right here right now bringing forth our dreams to grow, develop, and prosper. It begs us to remove the question, “What if” and replace it with the statement of certainty “What is now”.
The moment I began to open my heart to the possibility of opportunity and imperfection my life took a profound shift. I no longer allowed the constraints of perfection to block my creativity and dreams from being released into the universe. In turn, I began seeing the fireflies of luck everywhere.
I realize my dreams may not look the way I see it in my head, but that's not the point. The true gift of dreams is the expression of creativity within yourself and the beauty of who you in the moment. Dreams aren't structured, they shift and change just as we do. Learning how to embrace this idea as a part of you exposes you to the luck of opportunity. You become the firefly, blinking brightly for others to see, glittering with possibility.
My current list sits on my dresser, but it isn't perfect anymore. It is worn from being carried, checked, crossed out, and rewritten. I smile. This list is my beautiful journey of becoming imperfectly perfect.
